Lizzie Shutt, BS

Lizzie Shutt is a dedicated mental health counseling graduate intern passionate about guiding individuals on their journey toward healing, growth, and self-discovery. She has experience supporting clients navigating anxiety, ADHD, trauma, eating disorders, and the unique challenges young adults face as they transition into adulthood. Lizzie is committed to creating a safe, nonjudgmental space where clients can explore their experiences, build resilience, and move toward a more fulfilling life.

Currently, Lizzie is in her second year of graduate school, pursuing a master’s degree in Clinical Mental Health Counseling at Saybrook University, a hybrid program that integrates academic learning with hands-on clinical experience. Prior to her counseling internship, she worked for a year and a half as a program manager and client care support specialist, where she gained valuable experience in client advocacy, emotional support, and therapeutic interventions. Additionally, her background includes years of mindfulness, self-compassion, and coaching practice, which inform her approach to therapy.

Lizzie’s therapeutic style is mindfulness-based, humanistic, and person-centered, incorporating elements of Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT) and Dialectical Behavior Therapy (DBT). She has experience utilizing and teaching DBT skills, helping clients develop emotional regulation, distress tolerance, and interpersonal effectiveness. Drawing from her undergraduate degree in Horticultural Sciences, she also integrates nature-based metaphors to support self-reflection and self-compassion, encouraging clients to recognize their personal growth in the same way nature experiences cycles of change and renewal.
