Substance Use

Substance use therapy, a core component of substance use disorder (SUD) treatment, is an approach that helps individuals identify and change the behaviors and thoughts associated with drug and alcohol use. Through individual, group, or family sessions, we can work with clients to understand the root cause of their substance use, develop healthy coping mechanisms for cravings and stress, and build skills to prevent relapse. We can also work with family members to improve dynamics, and collaborate with client providers if requested to ensure a comprehensive, integrated approach to the client's overall recovery and well-being.

Common therapeutic techniques include Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT), which focuses on modifying unhealthy thinking patterns, and Motivational Interviewing (MI), which helps individuals strengthen clients' motivation to change. Another modality, Parts Work Therapy, helps clients understand and heal the "parts" of their psyche that drive addictive behaviors by acknowledging, accepting, and integrating them with the goal of reduced internal conflict.
